“Give public bailed-out banks shares says Nick Clegg”
I spotted a BBC article the other day where Nick Clegg suggested that UK Tax Payers should receive up to £500 worth of Lloyds TSB and RBS shares.
Although in a strange way it does make sense, after all it’s your money that has been put into these banks but I can’t but feel how the complicated this would be to sort out. Surely the costs of such a system would wipe out any profit made?
We are not all stock-brokers…
Many private individuals in the UK already hold stocks listed on the London Stock Exchange so that isn’t anything new. However the problem would come about with those that do not know how to manage stocks. It can easily be achieved through a share dealing account… funny enough I use Lloyds TSB myself. There would need to be a lot of time devoted to setting up these accounts for people only to hold the banking shares.
The only way which this might remotely work is if people are given a choice, even to hold or sell straight away. A kind of rights issue for the mass where you could sells your rights to these shares onto other people.
Indeed a psychological boost for the UK tax payer, feeling involved in what happens with their “investment” in the banks and economy but what about banks?
The financial crisis was not only caused by unsustainable valuations in assets but the confidence of shareholders. If 75% of taxpayer received the offer of banking shares, no doubt not knowing what to do with them they are going to cash out straight away, therefore devaluing the company.
Surely the banks should have a chance to pay back what they’re borrowed first before we call in the bailiffs (taxpayers).
We have been emailed by the University today that only 65% of students staying in halls of residence have completed and return their census 2011 forms.
Back in 2001, the UK Government were unhappy that 6% of the population missed out on taking part so how would they feel if they knew 35% of Aberystwyth Students (halls) have yet to complete their forms.
When we were first contacted about filling in the forms we were told that to ignore the first lot of forms as they were the wrong ones and that we would recieve the rights ones shortly afterwards. Perhaps this original confusion has meant students have not filled in the forms.
I couldn’t help click the above link when I was checking my Facebook account this morning updates. I wanted to see how David Cameron had coped with a YouTube interview whereby people could comment in with their questions.
Unfortunately time I viewed this they were closed for taking questions but you could view the interview video.
Although an interesting interview I was quite disappointed with the title ‘”David Cameron on Youtube” – I was quite hoping he had his own YouTube channel where he had created his own podcasts about the day to day running of the question…, but no… I got this.
Technium in Aberystwyth is to close it has been reported. Six Technium centres in Wales are to close apparently as they don’t bring value for money. These centres were setup to support local businesses by offering a variety of facilities.
One of the main problems business start-ups seem to face is having a suitable environment to hold meetings. It can be difficult finding a suitable and appropriate room but rooms in Technium in Aberystwyth can be hired.
It’s a shame that that at a time when private sector businesses should be receiving support and encouraging the use of facilities they are being taken away.
This isn’t new, Aberystwyth University and the town has been struggling to cope with the increased intake of students each year. Back in 2008, students were put up in hotels...
With the News of the World Newspaper brand coming under fire lately it was still a shock to see Murdoch completely get rid of it. As new scandals emerge...
