Aberystwyth Social Media Surgery
If you’re a local community group, charity or individual that wants to look at ways in which social media can benefit you then this might be for you.
The plan is to have an informal evening event where you’ll be invited along to talk to surgeons that specialise in this new form of online media. They can show you how different media may benefit your organisation.
This could be anything from promoting photographs on the web, setting up a community blog, twitter or facebook account.
If you’re interested in attending, either someone looking for advice/help or if you’d like to become a surgeon and help others then send an email to Rhys Gregory ryg8@aber.ac.uk expressing your interest.
Supermarket Monopoly in Aberystwyth?
Although there are few recognisable supermarket names in Aberystwyth such as Iceland, Coop, CK Foods and Morrisons there still appears to be a degree of monopoly power in Aberystwyth. This is only a personal point of view however the lack of big supermarket brands in Aberystwyth means that certain prices of products are inflated in the area.
Last night I visited the Tesco store in Newtown where firstly I noticed that petrol was 6p per litre cheaper, now some may argue that lorries have to travel that bit further to Aber but does that really justify the price?
There were many products in the Tesco store which were cheaper than that of Morrisons, I’m unable to do an exact price comparison as I didn’t go prepared but some products were cheaper. Some of the major offers including 3 for £4 on Microwavable rice were the same I must admit.
The location of the Tesco store in Newtown may play an important role in the price differences. There appears to be a Lidl, Morrisons, and I’m sure there’s also a sainsbury’s or another brand supermarket 100s of yards away from one another. This no doubt increases the competition between the supermarkets making sure they’re kept on their toes when it comes to low prices.
My thought is if more brands were located in Aberystwyth and perhaps closer together if we’d have even lower prices here.
Tesco Uses Own Products
I was visiting the Tesco Store in Newtown last night and found that whilst washing my hands in the toilets that Tesco uses it’s own hand soap. Now at first you may think that this is a brilliant idea… after all why wouldn’t they use their own products instead of industrial type tubs? – showing that they use their own products and that they’re good enough is exactly what they should be doing isn’t it.
However what happens if you feel the product is inferior to other leading hand soaps? – of course Tesco own brand products are often cheaper which can be a good thing but if the product seems watery couldn’t this put people off ever buying the product? – Of course this is just personal opinion and you may find yourself that the Tesco hand soap is of good quality.
Just a thought.
