New Layout of Tesco
Although a pretty rubbish photo taken on my camera phone, this is of the new Tesco Extra Store that they have recently built just outside of Chesterfield. The outside is slightly different than other stores, it’s of course large in size but this building is raised higher than the others with a lot less glass windows you’d often see in many of these large stores.
The store is in fact on stilts, allowing for an ikea style car park underneath:
Now one of the most interest features of the store is the layout. Tesco after recently branching out into an Argos style catalogue has created ‘retail units’ for those departments as you’ll see below. These include a bicycle shop, a phone shop, chemist, seasonal stand (with home furnishings) etc. Now as mentioned these departments aren’t new to Tesco but the format of having these retail units is and I know that Tesco did have plans for something similar to this in St Mellons, a suburb of Cardiff where local businesses could in fact rent some of these retail units that Tesco has therefore creating a harmony between big business and local business.
