Can’t Drink so Drive
Why is it that some people feel the need to have their volume at extraordinary high levels whilst driving around the streets of Aberystwyth… those being mainly Dark Gate Street and Pier Street? – in a lot of cases the music is loud that members of the public even look over in disgust at the driver but this doesn’t even make them turn it down.
I used to live on Pier Street and often the ‘subwoofers’ that some cars use even ‘shook’ and vibrated the glass in the windows… isn’t this going a bit too far. I have to admit that yes I sometimes enjoy ‘loud’ music in my car but firstly it isn’t as loud as this and secondly I’ll always turn it down in highly populated places and even at junctions and turnings where you need to concentrate a little bit more.
I can tell what you’re thinking… “Boy Racers” and in a lot of cases yes they do seem to young drivers that perhaps have recently passed their tests and due to being under 18 can’t drink.. so drive! – all night in some cases… the same cars can often be seen looping Aberystwyth again and again.. a lot of fun. If there were facilities in Aberystwyth for younger people would this help to deter them from driving? – The problem however isn’t just with young people, one guy in particular appears to be a older than 21, drives around Aberystwyth in a White Peugeot Convertible with music so loud that it shakes the glass… yes this is one of the window shaking people!
Often the cars are ‘modified’, personalised registrations, blacked out windows… spoilers, subwoofers etc which makes them easily recognisable , perhaps the wrong word, I’m not stereotyping here but you often can pick out the same people time and time again.
Note *
A proposed 20mph has been suggested on some of the streets in Aberystwyth but is slower speed limit really going to stop people?
