Aberystwyth International Students

Posted on - 13th June 2010

I have recently received an email from an International Student wanting to study at Aberystwyth University asking for more information about Aberystwyth. Below you’ll find the questions and answers provided; these have been posted to help other students who wish study here as well. If you have any further questions then don’t hesitate to ask an existing Aberystwyth Student: ryg8@aber.ac.uk

Question 1 – Aberystwyth University Entry Requirements:

Personally I’m not aware of the system when it comes to International Students, so it might be worth sending an email to the International Collaboration & Recruitment Office and also copy in the School of Management and Business with regards to entry requirements.

International – internationaloffice@aber.ac.uk

School of Business – smb-enquiries@aber.ac.uk

Question 2 – Are many students French Speaking:

Although I wouldn’t say there are a huge amount of students that are French speaking, there are and also a lot of students from many other European Countries who often speak a variety of languages including French. There does seem to be a large intake of European Students and also many students that enrol on ‘European Language’ Degree Courses.  You should be able find out more by contacting the Languages Department if you want further information: http://www.aber.ac.uk/eurolangs/index2.shtml

Question 3 – Do many Students already have Masters Before they Start?

I’m not sure of the ‘Masters’ course you’re talking about is the same in Belgium as it is here. Many students often come to Universities with A-Levels (or European Equivalents) – something you’ll have to check with the departments I mentioned in Question 1. Some students do come to University with other qualifications such as Masters and study other Postgraduate Courses and Phd courses.

Question 4 – Is it Difficult to get in… average points score.

I think it depends on the course you want to do to whether or not it’s difficult to get into Aberystwyth University. Again I’m not sure how the UK system compares to the one in your country and I refer to question 1 about contacting the relevant departments to discuss international entry requirements.

Question 5 – How much is Accommodation / Getting a Job in Aberystwyth.

As well as looking at a one bed flat in Aberystwyth (Private Sector), you might find it worthwhile contacting the University’s Accommodation Office accommodation@aber.ac.uk as well as offering onsite accommodation for ‘couples’ they can also help students with finding accommodation in the town as well as advice. From a personal experience, I have just moved out of a one bed flat in the centre of the town and that was £550 per month for a one bed flat which I shared with my girlfriend. Of course there’s cheaper accommodation on the outskirts of the town with good bus links. Usually around the £400-500 mark still.

When it comes to term time (September) there’s a large influx of students looking for jobs in Aberystwyth, it might be worth looking on the University’s Job Link Website here –  http://www.aber.ac.uk/careers/ where you can find vacancies from the university and businesses in the town. Not all jobs get listed here and it might be worth handing in your CV (details) to businesses themselves whilst you’re here. It can get quite competitive. Also it might be worth ‘Googling’ Architects in Aberystwyth, I’m sure there’s something…

I am an successfull international appliciant and I did it by UCAS like everybody from the UK as well. For more information visit <a href="http://www.ucas.com,” target=”_blank”>www.ucas.com, you can apply directly online for all universities in UK. I will live in private accomodation and will pay 150 Pounds monthly for my room in a shared apartment which is much cheaper than university accomodation. Some fellow freshers are looking for rooms on facebook on the Aberystwyth University sites, I cant tell wether successfull or not. If you got you baccalaureat or bac technique, so you should meet the entry requirements, also working experience or apprenticeships can count depending if they are in the same field as your future studies.Moi, par example je parle francais et aussi quelques amis des moi…
