Student Placement Exhibition NEC

Car Parking

Student Placement NEC

When we got to the NEC, parking was a nightmare, there were no sign posts or posters telling us or pointing us in the direction for the Student Work Placement Exhibition. There were also a few other cars like us driving around randomly stopping and starting. I think we took it in turns to follow each other, haha.

In the end I parked up in a Car Park where there were ‘Business’ looking people going into. We were told before coming that we’d have to pay £8 for car parking, well the car park we parked in didn’t charge us and later on we discovered we had parked in the wrong place. We had parked by Hall 1 and the LG Arena inside of closer to Hall 11!

The Placement Exhibition

The Placement Exhibition was quite beneficial as it gave a chance for us students to talk to other students who were currently out on their year out. They were able to explain the recruitment process, give us a few hints and tips etc.

Not all stands had students on who were on their year out so it was a bit hit or miss really on who you spoke to.

There were some excellent people on the stands of Marks and Spencers, GM Motors and Exxon Mobil.

I was quite disapointed with the ‘CV Clinic’ – they had a company in that would charge you to look at your CV and then charge you again for helping you out with and covering letters. You can get this advice free from your University or Careers Advisor. Although they charged, I think they were considerably cheaper than some businesses charging on the internet.

Wetherspoons NEC

Wetherspoons Pager NEC

As me (Rhys Gregory) and Greg Hobbs got to the NEC so earlier we decided to have a Wetherspoons Breakfast. I had a sausage sandwhich which was advertised for £2.99 but got charged £3, a fruit shoot for 50p and a 99p muffin which cost me £1.29.

When we ordered our food I was suprised to find that we were given a pager which would flash and viberate when our food was ready to get from the Cafe. I found this unusal and different, just like something you’d see in a film.
