Living on East Gate Street – Aberystwyth
Living on East Gate Street – Aberystwyth
I currently live along East Gate ‘Street’ in the centre of Aberystwyth. I’m renting a house with 4 other people in which the house is ‘typical’ student accommodation.
Parking
There’s parking along the one way street but it’s limited to 30 minutes between Monday-Saturday 9am – 6pm. You can park there on the Sunday or after 6pm weekdays.
I have parking at the back of my house but it’s so narrow I opt to park elsewhere in town.
Noise at Night
When living in town you must expect some noise, if you rent or buy a property try and make sure you have double glazing, unlike us we don’t have double glazing because it’s cheaper for the landlord when renting the house out to students so they don’t bother installing it.
We here word to word convocation, singing, swearing, glass bottles at night. Of course some nights are better than others. We once had someone walk into the court yard at the back of the house, crying and saying ‘I don’t want to Kill People anymore’ – we weren’t impressed!
Internet Access – Broadband
We currently have Orange broadband installed and pay around £20 for the service. It has been better in recent times but we did have to call out an engineer to replace the phone cable outside due to slow internet access. It seems to be running ok at the moment.
Other Facilities
There’s a sandwich shop close by and other restaurants and takeaways. Not that far from the local 24/hr spar shop either on terrace road.
Sometimes you can smell fresh bread being made on the way to the University when you leave.
